Sony will release firmware version 2.80 on Thursday with the added feature of RSS video streaming. RSS streaming was added in version 2.50 and has the ability to stream MP3 audio content as well as RSS web content. In the previous post Mark comments on the use of Twonkymedia which is a UPnP media server that supports the PSP in version 4 which is currently in beta.

Twonkymedia provides access to Internet radio (or shoutcast/icecast) streams by proxying the stream to a local RSS feed which means it could also proxy our home Icecast streams. I'm not sure if the Sony RSS software allows you to stream music and also run the browser, if it does then PlayerPal could still be used to control your music. Twonkymedia lets you view your music in a folder tree which makes browsing files easy although not as cool as PlayerPal!

Pimpstreamer remains one of the best video streaming homebrew apps for the PSP but perhaps the new RSS video streaming features in firmware version 2.80 will provide us with a new audio and video streaming solution.
